One of my favourite stories in Scripture is when Jesus talks with the Samaritan woman at the well. There are so many powerful truths that we can glean from the passage, and one that I’m drawn back to over and over again.
Jesus breaks down cultural barriers, racial barriers, and gender barriers, to have a conversation that restored the dignity and worth to a woman who was ostracized for her actions. But God’s plan for humanity is to bring everyone into relationship and right standing with Him, through the life and power of Jesus. He is the Way to understanding Truth and understanding our purpose for our life here on earth.
After the Samaritan woman encountered Jesus, she couldn’t help but tell her story to anyone who would listen. While her reputation likely proceeded her and many already knew of her ‘sins’, she spoke boldly to others of the One she met Who changed everything for her. She experienced the love of Jesus personally.
“Many from the Samaritan village believed He was the Messiah because of the woman’s report: “He told me everything I ever did!” When they came out to see Him at the well, they begged Him to stay at their village; and He did, for two days, long enough for many of them to believe in Him after hearing Him. Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe because we have heard Him ourselves, not just because of what you told us. He is indeed the Saviour of the world.” – John 39-42 (TLB)
The love of Jesus is for everyone to experience. It’s a love that doesn’t define us by our past but instead redeems and restores us. It’s a love that doesn’t leave us in the pit of sin but calls us to His best for us. It’s a love that equips us, strengthens us, and takes what we have been defined by and rewrites our story where we stand on the side of Victory. Where we stand in righteousness, with an inheritance far beyond what we could ever imagine.
The catalyst of Salvation is the plot twist that leads us to surrendering everything to Him. How Jesus changes our lives personally is a story worth telling! Let’s go and tell to all who will listen.
