“Whoever wants to know Me and receive My wisdom,
come and dine at My table and drink of My wine.
Lay aside your simple thoughts and leave your paths behind.
Agree with My ways, live in My Truth,
and you will find righteousness.”
-Proverbs 9:4-6 (TPT)
Wisdom has a table and we’re invited to it.
To sit.
To receive.
To be nourished.
There’s an exchange that happens at the table, where we lay aside our own selfish desires and thoughts, and we enter into the ways of Truth… the only way that leads to true Life, abundant Life, eternal Life. At the table, fear of the LORD is the foundation of receiving Wisdom. (ref. Proverbs 9:10) A holy reverence for the One Who created us and knows us better than we could ever know ourselves. It’s there where we recognize our total dependence on God – for everything! How we live, how we act, how we speak, how we think – all of it we put under complete surrender to Him.
Wisdom teaches us to honour and respect. To live in awe of the One Who fashioned and designed us intricately, for His good, His purpose and His glory. Wisdom teaches us His power and how to wield it with humbleness, submitting under the authority of Jesus Christ. Wisdom leads us to Trust wholeheartedly – following the commandments of His Word and the instructions of His Spirit.
“If you want to know what God wants you to do, ask Him, and He will gladly tell you, for He is always ready to give a bountiful supply of wisdom to all who ask Him; He will not resent it. But when you ask Him, be sure that you really expect Him to tell you, for a doubtful mind will be as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind; and every decision you then make will be uncertain, as you turn first this way and then that. If you don’t ask with faith, don’t expect the Lord to give you any solid answer.” – James 1:5-8 (TLB)
Let’s be women who are expectant on hearing from the Lord. May we seek Him daily, taking a seat at Wisdom’s table and not leaving until we’ve allowed Him to nourish us with His Truth and provide us with a bountiful supply of wisdom. Amen?
