Where do you find comfort?

When I think about this question, “Where do you find comfort?”, I would say my typical go-to’s are drawing a hot bubble bath, or wrapping up in a blanket, lighting a candle and turning on the fireplace. The blanket, candle and fireplace usually win!

Comfort engages all our senses and has the capability of drawing out all manner of emotions in us.

Comfort can bring us to a state of rest and relaxation.

It can console our weariness.

It can overwhelm us with joy and cheer.

It can soothe us in our grief.

Bring relief when we’re reminded of our safety.

It can provide satisfaction to our cravings.

We can experience release of stress when embraced with comfort.

Drawing us to physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

What a multi-faceted… powerful… state of ease and freedom!

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3

What a loving Father, to show such kindness by comforting us in so many ways! Regardless of our circumstance, our Heavenly Father is always a source of comfort. Ready and willing to draw us near to Him at all times. That’s really what we ultimately are longing for. While we may fill that desire with so many other things, our ultimate desire is longing for His nearness. His comfort over our physical bodies. His comfort over our emotions. His comfort through His Spirit.

In His mercy… He always shows up. If we’re paying attention, we see Him in every moment of comfort. In the good. In the holy. Not as the world views comfort, but as a good and faithful God brings comfort. “Every good and perfect gift is from Him…” (James 1:17). As He comforts, He draws near waiting for us to follow suit…. To lean in all the more. Physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Where/ How have you been finding comfort in Him lately?
