Victory in Thoughts

“For although we do live in the world, we do not wage war in a worldly way; because the weapons we use to wage war are not worldly. On the contrary, they have God’s power for demolishing strongholds. We demolish arguments and every arrogance that raises itself up against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obey the Messiah.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (CJB)

How’s your thought life?

Do you battle with a negative mindset? A downward perspective - finding it challenging to experience joy?

Some days the battle of the mind can be raging. Some seasons are heavy with struggling to find a positive perspective and hold onto the peace we’ve been promised. The war over our thought life isn’t one that we can contend with on our own. The Spirit of Christ that lives in all followers of Jesus, holds the very power we need to bring about the very change we long for.

Some of the tools that the world may offer are beneficial and can give us practical steps to help from letting our thought life spiral out of control. But true freedom is available through the very One who paid for our complete freedom. Jesus didn’t go to Heaven and leave us on earth all alone. He gave us His Spirit! He gave us power. He gave us authority. He gave us dominion. He gave us His name, which is above every other name. A name that demands the enemy to flee from us. A name that brings victory. A name that takes every thought captive, so that we can live in freedom.

Goliath paralyzed the Israelites in fear. Beyond his intimidating size, he was relentless in his deafening mockery. David heard the taunting and tormenting words of Goliath ring in his ears. He grasped that Goliath could only come at him with physical strength, but David had a far greater power at his disposal. “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the LORD of Heaven’s Armies – the God of the armies of Israel.” (ref. 1 Samuel 17:45).

While you will hopefully never have to physically take-down a gigantic warrior on the dirt of a battlefield, often battling our thoughts feels much the same. And while the sheer size or unrelenting nature of them could make us believe we have no hope of victory, that’s merely what our enemy wants us to believe…but couldn’t be further from the truth.

Freedom is available. We don’t have to settle for a mind that is polarized by the taunting’s and lies of the enemy. All those who are in Christ have the authority to demolish the stronghold that is hindering them from experiencing the peace of God and every other attribute of His Spirit in us.

“I surrender my mind to You God. I command all negative and spiralling thoughts - all unhealthy and crippling thoughts - to leave now, in the name of Jesus. Because of Jesus, I can live in freedom. The enemy holds no dominion over me – or my mind. I have been bought at a price, by the blood of Jesus, and I stand on the authority He has given me through the Holy Spirit to take every thought captive today.”
