Times and Seasons

It’s inevitable, that in life, change happens. Whether we welcome it or not.

Change can be great.

Change can be exciting.

Change can be hard.

Change can be painful.

We can enter into the “change” kicking and screaming…we can step cautiously and slowly into it.. and other times we may run as fast as we can to get to what that change is. In all things, God holds the times and seasons for everything in the palm of His hands.

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

A time to be born and a time to die

A time to plant and a time to uproot

A time to kill and a time to heal

A time to tear down and a time to build

A time to weep and a time to laugh

A time to mourn and a time to dance

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather them

A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing

A time to search and a time to give up

A time to keep and a time to throw away

A time to tear and a time to mend

A time to be silent and a time to speak

A time to love and a time to hate

A time for war and a time for peace.”

- Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8

We live in a constant ebb and flow pattern.

Coming and going.

Increase and Decrease.

Decline and regrowth.

Recurring through the rhythms of life where we may be conquering mountains in one season and settling into the depths of the valleys in the next. Perhaps that’s the way God can speak to us best, where our ears are most attuned to listen to Him.

Through the waxing and waning, our position is to keep us in humble dependency upon a Holy God and His providence, building faith in us through each season. Hoping for the best and knowing in the lowest moments of life we’ll be held in His presence through it all.

While we may not understand everything, every season has its purpose and in all things God’s timing is best. The sun will burst forth from behind the clouds. And while the clearest sky will again become clouded, it will in turn, also become clear again. Isn’t it just the same with the seasons of life with God? As we trust Him through the valleys, we can praise Him boldly on the mountaintops, knowing that if - or should I say when - we circle back down to our next valley we’ll remain in the shelter and security of the Most High God, and it’s there where He nourishes us and leads us to streams of living waters.

In all things, God holds the times and seasons for everything and everyone in the palm of His hands. “[Jesus] is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” – Colossians 1:17

That is enough to keep me rejoicing and singing praises to Him today. How about you?
