“I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge – that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” – Ephesians 3:17b-19
God’s love for us was established before the foundation of the world. Which in itself just blows my mind. Can we truly measure out the love that He has for us? I don’t think we ever will be able to comprehend the fullness and purity and holiness of the love He has for us. If we can grasp a glimpse of how much He loves us, and truly let that settle in us, it will change us.
The beauty of knowing God is that it is a continual process. We can’t confine Him to a specific category – because there’s this tension that while He makes Himself known to us and we can know Him so intimately, He is also a mystery and we will never be able to predict all His ways or know Him completely. It’s a tension that calls us to live a life surrendered, with open hands before Him – confident of what we know of Him and what He’s done for us but it also keeps us in awe of Who He fully is and the mysteries of His all-knowing, all-encompassing ways.
His Love – established a plan of Salvation before we breathed our first breath. Giving of Himself to live in human form. Fully God and fully man. The length of love HE would go to, to make a way to have relationship with our Creator.
How wide?
How long?
How high?
How deep?
A love that came from Heaven to Earth to restore us unto Himself.
“For His unfailing love toward those who fear Him is as great as the height of the Heavens above the Earth. He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.” – Psalm 103:11-12
Can we measure how high Heaven is from Earth? Can we measure how far the east is from the west?
God’s desire to love us seems limitless, proven through the sacrifice of Himself on our behalf and for our mistakes. Doesn’t that just drop you to your knees?
May the awe and wonder of Who He is and what He’s done for us, not be lost on us today.
“I thank You God, that in the midst of an unknown world, You are a God that has made Yourself known to us by sending us Jesus. You are the true giver of Love and Joy, and as we prepare our hearts for the celebration of Jesus’ birth – a story so familiar to us - let not the familiarity numb us from the awe and wonder of the great lengths You went to, to show us how much You love us. Holy Spirit speak fresh revelation to us and stir our hearts to experience Your Love in new ways that we may be filled with the fullness of Your love to show the world around us the Hope that we have, so they too may know You. In Jesus’ name, Amen!”
