The Gift of Rejoicing

“When it came time for Elizabeth’s baby to be born, she gave birth to a son. And when her neighbors and relatives heard that the Lord had been very merciful to her, everyone rejoiced with her.” – Luke 1:57-58

Have you noticed that God often moves when we least expect it? Orchestrating things in a manner only He could do. In His timing. When the natural seems impossible… He moves in supernatural ways.

I love that Elizabeth’s neighbours and relatives rejoiced alongside her in the good news of the birth of her son. Joy can be contagious like that. For sure Heaven rejoiced too!

At times it’s hard to focus in on something to rejoice about… through the seasons of waiting and wondering why God hasn’t shown up like we thought He would - it takes more effort to look for the little things that bring joy. But a heart full of gratitude often has to wade through seasons of searching deep within ourselves to be reminded of the joy that we have in the Lord, regardless of our situation or circumstance.

Even if today we can only think of one thing that brings us joy, let’s celebrate it. Maybe you’re in a season where you see joy all around you – enjoy it! Celebrate it all – big or small! Every little moment of it!

The gift of rejoicing could only come from a loving Father who knows the hearts of His creation so well. Zephaniah 3:17 says, “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love, He will exult over you with loud singing.”

He loves to rejoice over His children! And He loves to celebrate. Look no further than the Jewish festivals outlined in the Scriptures to see how much He loves celebrating and cares about the details of the celebration.

Bring on the music!

Bring on the tasty food!

Bring on the celebration!

This advent season, how are you celebrating the Joy that you’ve been given? It may look different than other years but rejoicing begins in our hearts….let’s see where the celebrations lead.
