The words “Stay alert” have been floating around in my mind for the last couple weeks. I’ve been working hard to be on guard, through this season, to persevere attentively. Working to not let my mind be consumed by anything other than Truth.
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
During our time on earth, there is no one exempt from being presented with the bait of satan. We all are subject to the temptation that he offers. Jesus wasn’t exempt from the temptation (although He didn’t succumb to it) and neither are we.
The devil is after souls, and beyond that he’s on the prowl to stop anyone from fulfilling the purpose that God has for them: bringing the gospel of Jesus and the love of the Father to all creation. Knowing our mission, satan will do whatever he possibly can to steal, kill and destroy. (John 10:10)
For us, knowing we’re not exempt, the greatest thing we can do to combat the enemy, is to “stand firm against him, and be strong in our faith.” (1 Peter 5:9).
We must stay alert.
Guard our faith.
Ask God to strengthen it. Test it. Grow it.
While the burdens we face here on earth can feel heavy and drawn-out, they are fleeting in comparison to the time we will spend in Heaven. For it is in His kindness that God called you to share in His eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while…
He WILL restore you.
He WILL support you.
He WILL strengthen you.
He WILL place you on a firm foundation.
(reference 1 Peter 5:10)
Stay alert!
The enemy is out to take us down.
But praise be to God.
He alone is our firm foundation. Our strength.
All glory and power be to God our Father, who sent Jesus to earth to pay the price for all sin, defeating the devil and death itself, so that in Him and through Him we might truly live.
