Setting our Priorities Right

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:25-33 (ESV)

Do you wrestle with being anxious over the unknowns of life?

If you do, you’re certainly not alone. It’s an easy cycle to get caught up in – being consumed by what we need or the worries we have of the future.

When we let concern or overwhelming emotion lead us astray to being consumed by fear, we need to speak against the trap of sin that the enemy uses to entangle us in, so we can stop the spiraling anxious thoughts. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.” (ref. 2 Timothy 1:7). A ‘sound mind’ can also be translated to be ‘self-control’ or a mind that is disciplined. As Christ followers, this is the active role that we need to take daily, to discipline our minds to know Truth. To seek Christ first. Submitting our fears to the unchanging, Holy and perfect Word of God. Seeking Truth first in all things, allows our minds to see things clearly.

When we have our priorities set in the right place – God first and His Kingdom ways - we have no need to worry because we can rest in the promises that God has given us. Seek God first and allow Him to handle the details of what we need. They’ll be provided at just the right time – in His timing. As we follow His ways, He will provide every detail, all resources are His and He is never limited by lack of supply.

Let’s be women who trust the Lord with all our hearts, leaning not on our own resources, understanding, or our ideas, but believing that His ways are the best for us, and yielding to the path that He is making straight before us. He is Faithful to provide as He knows we need. May our continual posture be set on having our priorities right - placing Him above all else in our lives.
