Reverent Heart

“Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.”

– Philippians 2:12-13

To be a Christian, means that we are to be Christlike. In order to be Christlike, we need to know Christ. We need to understand His ways, His character, His Word and His Spirit. We need to place our full dependency on Him, posturing a heart of reverence before Him. This is the action behind working out our salvation. Not working for it – but being changed because of it.

In a world calling for so much of our attention, we must remain diligent to keep our focus on Jesus, so that we won’t be sidetracked or head down a slippery slope of believing what isn’t Truth. While we need to work hard to work out our salvation, it is the blood-bought power of Jesus that works in us to produce what is good and what is pleasing to Him. It’s the power of His Spirit that leads us to obedience, molding us to reflect the love of Jesus to all people. It is impossible to please Him without His work in and through us – no amount of determination or steadfastness will achieve what only His Word and His Spirit can do through the power of Christ’s salvation at work in us.

May we be women who desire to please Him each and every day. May we trust Him fully at His Word and listen to the direction of His Spirit – surrendering with each instruction He gives us. May we willingly give our heart in complete reverence to Him.
