I don’t know if it’s a cool phrase to say, “You’ve got this!” or not.
Maybe the very fact that I don’t know tells you how uncool I actually am. (haha)
I’m all for self-talk and encouragement, but this phrase just makes me wonder sometimes, what is it all based on?
“You’ve got this.”
I do?
That seems like a lot of pressure.
So, are we talking about our own strength? Our own determination? Cause I’ve tried to do stuff time-and-again in my own strength. And that often turned out to prove that I actually didn’t have it.
When I think of the words the world promotes, there’s so much focus on our own strength. On our own power. On our own control of our future and circumstances. It appears to be packaged together in “self-care” language, that’s so popular…and who can speak against it?? And while I believe we do play a huge part in our choices and mindset, I really don’t think that my own strength is what’s going to get me through the tough times, healthy and whole.
What it really comes down to is where our lasting strength comes from. Is it coming from the right source? Instead of it being a flawed view of me being the source of life-changing power and strength I need, it’s actually the life-changing power of God in me that I need.
A resilient strength that is full of hope and purpose.
Hope that reminds me over and over again that God is always with me, and that in the end He wins. Purpose that reminds me that whatever the enemy means for evil, God uses it for good. Clinging to His strength and putting on each piece of armour that He’s equipped me with, that’s what makes me able to stand strong.
So as you take on a new season, or even just a new day, may you see that the strength you need to get through whatever this life may throw at you, ISN’T your own strength or your own power or control…it’s HIS…cause, “God’s got this”.
“Be strong in the Lord, relying on His mighty strength. Put on the whole armour of God so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armour so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armour of God’s righteousness. For shoes put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion stay alert and be persistent”
- Ephesians 6:10-18
