“God, my shepherd!
I don’t need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
You find me quiet pools to drink from.
True to your word,
You let me catch my breath
And send me in the right direction.” – Psalm 23:1-3 (Msg)
The busyness of life can often delay us from taking time to truly rest. In contrast, having time on our hands doesn’t always result in true rest either…. While we may not be on the go running errands or working, time can fly binging Netflix, or scrolling through social media. Sleep also doesn’t quench the rest that our spirit truly longs for.
So, what does it take? Choice. Determining to stop and spend time with God.
Surrendering to the tranquil presence of God allows us to quiet our minds. Stopping the spin-cycle of racing thoughts. Just sitting with Him. Breathing in the peaceful love of Who He is, breathing out knowing that He desires to be with you. It’s in the calmness that He satisfies our thirst. He restores our soul. Replenishes our strength. And it gives space and freedom to Him to speak to us without the chaos and commotion that often consumes us, allowing Him opportunity to share what’s on His heart and give us direction.
True to His word, He lets us catch our breath.
So, what if we did this this weekend?
Let’s set aside time to stop, quiet our minds, and lean into the presence of God. Drink of the living water He has in abundant supply, and soak in the refreshing tranquility of the presence of Jesus. Let Him speak in the silence as we determine to listen.
