Purpose in the Expectation

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” – Ephesians 2:10

It’s so crazy to even try to wrap my mind around the mysteries of how God works. That He knows in advance what He’s set out for us to do, and where and how we play a part in the Kingdom of God - spreading the news of Jesus to a lost and broken world.

We get to do truly good work!

Can you believe we get to do this?!

That He would entrust us with such an amazing responsibility?!

Full of joy.

Full of purpose.

Good works are the result, not the cause of our salvation, where the Holy Spirit working in and through a transformed heart produces a good life.

Not a perfect life. Not a pain-free life. But a beautifully good life.

There seems to be this pressure that just exists in our world – and even in churches – that puts expectation to what and how our good works for God should look like.

Pressure to look a certain way.

Pressure to speak a certain way.

Pressure to fit inside a box of thinking and acting a certain way.

And frankly, that pressure can get exhausting…jumping through the hoops of what others think we should be doing.

But the expectations that God lays out for the followers of Jesus don’t hold the weight of that kind of pressure. He’s the One that has prepared in advance for the work He has for us to do.

HE’s the One that holds the answers to what it looks like for us.

He’s the ONLY One that we should be seeking for clarity on our journey.

When our focus is on what God wants of us, the pressure found in the expectations of others fades. It’s our very purpose that’s found in the expectations of God.

Sisters, we get to do good work!

What are you seeking God for direction on this week?

What is He stirring in your hearts to do today for Him?

May you head into this week with your head held high and with your mind set on the purpose that’s found in His expectation of you.

And may you find comfort in the fact that He planned it all out long ago and He’s got it all under control.
