“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour.” – Isaiah 43:2-3
I clung to these verses with great hope, when I was a single mom with three little kids. There were days that I felt like I was drowning and could barely breathe. And I prayed to believe the words of these verses, as I memorized them. I wrote them down on multiple sticky notes and placed them on mirrors and carried them around with me in my purse. I got fancy one day and wrote the verses out on a piece of olive-green cardstock and popped it into black frame one day… hung it on the wall…and it’s been hung in every home of mine since.
These verses still continue to impact me today because I’ve learned that the product of who we are comes from walking through the waters and the fire.
Water cleanses and purifies our soul.
Water satisfies our thirst and replenishes our mind.
Fire refines us by burning away the toxins in our life.
Fire ignites passion, resurrecting the will of God in us.
And through it all, He is with us… no matter how high the waters rise. Or how hot the fire burns. The Lord our God – the Holy One of Israel – our Saviour… is with us!
Through the water and the fire… He’s restoring us to who He created us to be. For His Kingdom purposes. For His Glory. For our good and the good of those around us.
Purified.
Refined.
So, sister, I don’t know what your situation is – maybe you’re in the midst of a tough season or one will soon be upon you, but I hope that these verses bring you hope like they do to me.
Your Jesus died for you to have life and have it to the full.
And He did not bring you this far to abandon you.
