“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord.
“And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine.
For just as the heavens are higher than the earth,
so my ways are higher than your ways
and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.
The rain and snow come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
It is the same with My Word.
I send it out, and it always produces fruit.
It will accomplish all I want it to,
and it will prosper everywhere I send it.”
- Isaiah 55:8-11 (NLT)
The sovereignty of the Lord is astounding. As much as we try our best to understand His ways, and how He operates, we can never fully understand His thoughts. As much as science can articulate some amazing things, and we can learn from many of its discoveries, only the Creator Himself reserves the right to know all the intricate details of how He formed all things into being and the plans He has for each and every one of them. God knows everything and every aspect of how each thing in the universe operates. He knows what brings life, how far the sun needed to be from the earth, every aspect of every single individual who has ever lived right down to the number of hairs on their head. God’s ways transcend anything that we could possibly comprehend.
However, by God’s grace, we have His Word. His Word isn’t hidden from those who seek Him and desire to know Him intimately. His Word reveals to us a glimpse into His thoughts. It’s by His compassion that He’s saved us and equipped us with His Spirit and His Word, so that we can truly know Him. His Word at work in us, does not return void…. Rather His Word prospers in us. Changing us. Delivering us. Cultivating His plans and purposes in us as we conform to its Truth. His Word will prosper in us, producing fruit that cannot be manufactured. Fruit that impacts others and holds eternal worth.
May God’s Word and His Spirit pour down on us like rain that waters the ground. Continually filling us to overflowing, so that He can produce in us all that He has purposed for us – His best!
