“Hallelujah!
I will praise the LORD with all my heart
in the assembly of the upright and in the congregation.
The Lord’s works are great,
and studied by all who delight in them.
All that He does is splendid and majestic;
His righteousness endures forever.
He has caused His wonderful works to be remembered.
The Lord is gracious and compassionate.
He has provided food for those who fear Him;
He remembers His covenant forever.
He has shown His people the power of His works
by giving them the inheritance of the nations.
The works of His hands are truth and justice;
all His instructions are trustworthy.
They are established forever and ever,
enacted in truth and in what is right.
He has sent redemption to His people.
He has ordained His covenant forever.
His name is holy and awe-inspiring.
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;
All who follow His instructions have good insight.
His praise endures forever.”
– Psalm 111 (HCSB)
This psalm is written as a Hebrew poem, penned to praise the works of God. It does the heart so good to recount the works of God’s hand, doesn’t it? When was the last time you took pen to paper, and poured out your heart, recounting the praises of our amazing God? Magnifying God for the things that we know that He’s done on our behalf.
There are two verses that stand out to me the most in this psalm.
Verse 2: “The Lord’s works are great, and studied by all who delight in them.”
As we delight in Him and take pleasure in Who He is, what’s important to Him becomes important to us. We’re drawn to study His works, to ponder His ways, because He is magnificent and awe-inspiring and everything He has created, He’s touched, He's spoken, He’s redeems, bears the marks of His fingerprints. It’s all glory! His glory!
Verse 7: “The works of His hands are truth and justice; all His instructions are trustworthy.”
I love that He never sways on Truth or Justice. I love how He is the complete and pure manifestation of what Love truly is, and while He is Love, He never once diminishes Truth or Justice. He does not compromise. Justice will come. His Truth will last forever. That’s our gracious, compassionate, and loving God – trustworthy in all His ways, and in all His works.
May our hearts forever pour out praises to Him for all that He has done!
