Point of Focus

So often, what we see in front of us and the circumstances we find ourselves in, can be so overwhelming that we keep our focus on them….and that’s exactly what the enemy wants us to do when things aren’t going well. When things seem to spin out of control, and we react in fear of the unknown, we can, as a default settle our focus on our pain. Focused on what’s not going how we think it should. Focused on all that’s failing… But if that’s the case, then we’re not focusing on the One who will get us through it all.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.

Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you.

I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

Everyone has negative thoughts, and it would be ridiculous to think we wouldn’t address the feelings we wade through in painful circumstances – certainly when we’re dealing with the fear of the unknown. But when we let the fear overwhelm our minds and consume our focus we can fail to see the endless hope that we have in Jesus. Without hope we flounder so easily into self-pity and despair.

I love the promise of the scripture we just read! As believers in Jesus, we have no need to stay in fear, because God is with us. It’s pretty remarkable to think that the same Spirit that lived in Jesus lives in us! I don’t ever want that to become commonplace to me. This promise is a reminder of the covenant that God made with us through His Son Jesus.

May we cling today to our promise-keeping God.

We do not need to live in fear.

Our God is with us.

He will strengthen us.

He is our Helper and Sustainer.

He literally helps us breathe when we’re overwhelmed.

And through it all, He holds us.

We can rest in the security of His loving arms regardless of our circumstance.
