Suggested reading: Psalm 27
Throughout many of the Psalms, it is evident that David often battled against fear and anxiety, as we see that he wrote about it over and over. Perhaps you’re like me, and you resonate with these types of Psalms in particular. While David had great faith, a heart after God with a desire to live for Him and praise Him, he was not immune to fear. But David seemed to recognize that when he exposed the lies of fear and the root of where it was coming from, that was a step toward allowing God to carry him through, regardless of his feelings or circumstance. Fear is a spirit and it’s a liar, lurking around to try and intimidate us (ref. 2 Timothy 1:7).
Despite his fears, David made the choice to continually trust God and enter into the sanctuary of God’s presence. To commune with Him in prayer. To worship and praise God. To experience the joy of the Lord in the face of danger. Delighting in all the ways of the Lord and meditating on Him, as he waited on God to provide for him.
“My heart has heard You say, “Come and talk with Me.”
And my heart responds, “LORD, I am coming”
- Psalm 27:8
There is a personal invitation for us each day to enter the sanctuary of the Lord, where His glory dwells and He desires to fill and fuel us. We can come to Him anytime and anyplace, regardless of who is around. When we seek Him, we will find Him, when we seek Him with our whole heart (ref. Jeremiah 29:13).
So, whether you’re starting off this new week coming against the spirit of fear, or your mind is consumed with another battle, may it be our heart’s desire to always answer as David did, when the Lord whispers to our heart, “Come and talk with Me.”
“LORD, I am coming.”
