“Then Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary.’
For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”
And the Lord said, “Listen to what the unjust judge says. And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off? I tell you, He will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” – Luke 18:1-8 (NIV)
How would you describe your prayer life? Could it be described as persistent?
I wonder how often we experience a delay in God answering our prayers, or we assume the answer is no, so we stop bringing our request before God. We all have an adversary, the enemy of our soul, who is after destruction in our lives. Satan and his kingdom are relentless against followers of Jesus. Relentless at stealing, killing and destroying. This is the cause of the injustice we see all around us. I think many would agree that at times it feels as though justice doesn’t exist in the here and now.
Praise be to God that Jesus is our Just Judge and that when He returns to earth He will once and for all deal with all the injustice that has been done against the people of God. But this parable about the persistent woman is such a great reminder that justice is possible here. I see the importance of this woman’s faith that was the drive behind her persistence.
Do we believe that God will answer?
Do our prayers reflect a faith that is rooted in the power and goodness of God?
Let’s be women of God who are not lackluster in our approach of prayer, but rather women who uphold the shield of faith each and every day. Dedicated to our time in communion with God and sharing everything that is on our heart. Let us not grow weary in bringing our requests to Him, for as we wait on Him, surely, He is developing character in us that is strengthening our faith in Who He says He is and what He says He would do.
