Perfect Peace

“You will keep in perfect peace

all who trust in You,

all whose thoughts are fixed on You!”

- Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

Are you experiencing God’s peace?

His perfect peace is always available to us. If you’re anything like me, I don’t always feel as though I’m in the presence of His peace. So why is that? Why is it so easy to be overwhelmed with anxiety instead of His peace?

When we’ve taken our eyes off of God and stray our attention to the possible outcome of our situation, to what others are doing, or what others are saying, plain and simple – we’re just not trusting Him like we should.

Scripture promises us that when we trust Him and keep our mind’s eye fixed on Him, we will be kept in His peace. When our eyes shift to anything other than Him, that’s when we fall out of experiencing His peace, and fear creeps in, comparison creeps in, discontentment appears, and we lose our joy. What we input into our mind directly reflects how and what we output. What we allow in, shows how we trust. If we fully trust God with our situation, our outcome, then our eyes won’t stray from Him.

So when we take what’s overwhelming us – causing fear and anxiety – and we direct our attention and thoughts back to Him, being vulnerable with our weakness, it’s then that the strength from the Holy Spirit helps us endure, and He is able to fill us with His perfect peace. We never have to leave that place of peace… it’s always waiting there for us.

Perhaps today may be a good time to assess where our eyes are fixed… Spending time in repentance of how we’ve drifted takes courage, to face our own junk, and the vulnerability to be honest with the state of our own heart and mind. We can so easily fall into idolatry of man, or the arrogance of trying to keep control of our lives, but when we come to the place of pure surrender and reverence, God’s peace will rush in like a flood.
