Overflowing Hope

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 15:13 (NIV)

Over and over again in Scripture we see these subtle but massive game-changers that we can apply to our everyday lives. As we pay attention, we see promises lift off the page that we can cling to, because God’s Word is living and active, and because God is not a man that He should lie. His Word is true, and He will not fail us.

When we put our trust in God, the gifts of joy and peace are available to us. Having joy and peace in the midst of a storm, doesn’t seem logical but it’s a by-product of where, or should I say WHO, we’re putting our trust in. And there’s a purpose for it. There’s a transformation that happens in Believers as they trust in God, they begin to see that He is trustworthy – we gain a Holy Spirit empowered hopefulness – to keep believing, and therefore we keep experiencing the joy and peace that is available to us...and the hope that overflows. Where our hope increases, doubts are diminished. Where our hope rests, our joy and peace are filled beyond measure.

Let’s face it, continually trusting isn’t always easy. But just as we exercise our physical muscles, our spiritual muscles are exercised each time we put our trust in God, allowing them to gain strength and stability, and endurance so that when uncertainty arises in the natural realm, we can hold onto the hope that we know to be abundantly true.

While there is still breath in our lungs and blood pulsing through our veins, we hold hope… a promise of a new day. A promise of new opportunities to exercise our trust. A promise of joy and peace as we place faith in Almighty God. A promise that joy and peace will abound… and that hope will continue to overflow in us through the Holy Spirit.

May we, whether for the first time or the millionth time, experience this, as we place our trust in Him today.
