The Word of God that was spoken to Moses, provided the Israelites with instructions on how to live in the freedom under God’s Sovereignty and protection. Having come out from the bondage of Egypt, The Lord provided regulations for how to live and operate in unison as a Holy nation. When Moses began to tell the people the instructions concerning war, this is how he began: “When you go out to fight your enemies and you face horses and chariots and an army greater than your own, do not be afraid. The Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, is with you! When you prepare for battle, the priest must come forward to speak to the troops. He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and He will give you victory!” – Deuteronomy 20:1-4 (NLT)
While most people aren’t in the situation where they’re facing enemies in combat, each day we absolutely are facing enemies in the spiritual realm. Ephesians 6:12 tells us, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” The reality is we’re never not in a war. But we don’t enter into war as those who are ill-equipped and without resources. “For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10:3-5
Because of Christ, we hold great power through the Holy Spirit. We find in the Scriptures the beautiful promise that God is the Victor of the war. While we may feel from time to time, or even for long seasons in our life, that we’re floundering, God’s promise still rings true. In the end, because of Jesus and the cross, we win. In the here and now, we have the divine power to destroy strongholds, and the greatest one we might battle today is in our mind. When we cling to the Truth of the Word, our eyes are exposed to the lies of the enemy. The battleground of our mind is one of the greatest tactics satan uses to break us down.
So today, as we acknowledge the battle that we’re in, may these words, that we’re said to the Lord’s people thousands of years ago, bring comfort and peace to our hearts:
“Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and He will give you victory!”
Jesus is our Victory!
