Ordinary Grace

We all have things, people, and relationships that at one time or another, we have taken for granted. You know what I mean, right? We have this unconscious expectation that they’ll just be there tomorrow… so we often hold an uninspired, lackluster, feeling toward them. Because they feel ordinary.

The regularity or consistency of even the most valuable things in our lives can shift them to a place of being ordinary… they’ve lost the newness, we’ve lost the wonder, and they become regular…mundane…expected. And with what was once (and still should be) regarded as precious, we miss the grace in what’s become ordinary.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…” – James 1:17 (NIV)

It is by Grace alone that we have anything. May we be women who see the ordinary as all grace. What is typically common, is seen and appreciated. So that if it was taken away in a moment, we could look back and genuinely say we were thankful for all of it… in the time that we had with it.

Let’s nourish our thoughts to be thankful of the ordinary.

Let’s speak words of gratitude for the ordinary.

Let’s produce actions of gratefulness toward what is viewed as ordinary.

Ordinary Grace…

Roof over my head.

Cozy blanket and a good book.

Conversation with a friend.

Hug from family.

Steaming hot cup of tea.

What would you add to the list today? What is ‘ordinary’ in your day-to-day that’s an overlooked gift of grace?
