“So watch your step, friends. Make sure there’s no evil unbelief lying around that will trip you up and throw you off course, diverting you from the living God. For as long as God’s still calling it Today, keep each other on your toes so sin doesn’t slow down your reflexes. If we can only keep our grip on the sure thing we started out with, we’re in this with Christ for the long haul. These words keep ringing in our ears: Today, please listen; don’t turn a deaf ear as in the bitter uprising.” – Hebrew 3:12-14 (Msg)
Our time in this sin-stained world is too hard to journey through alone. We need other Christ followers. Shoulders to cry on. Listening ears. Others willing to sit with us in silence. Those who love us enough to call us to Truth when our eyes are being diverted from the path that God has laid out for us. Believers who challenge us to keep going, dig deeper and who know and value the power of prayer and choose to intercede on our behalf. Sisters and Brothers who worship alongside us, who spur us on to good works, and who fill the room with the presence of Godly joy and abundant wisdom. Those who call out our apathy and complacency. Those who don’t give up on us, because Christ never gave up on them. This is the beauty of the Church in a world trapped in the scandal of sin. This is the living love of Christ that crouches down beside us and steadies our weary feet, until we’re able to stand on our own, linked arm-in-arm with each other, so that we no longer fall prey to the lies of the enemy again.
“As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.” – Proverbs 27:17
We’re in this for the long haul – eternity with Jesus – so let’s choose to love our place in the Church. Let’s allow others to sharpen us and allow the Holy Spirit to guide us in sharpening others. Today is a great day to stay on course with Jesus! With Christ at the center, what an awesome place to live in the fellowship and love of other Believers!
