“For we are those He cares for, and He is the God we worship.
So drop everything else and listen to His voice!
For this is what He’s saying:
“Today, when I speak,
don’t even think about turning a deaf ear to me
like they did when they tested me at Meribah and Massah,
the place where they argued with me, their Creator.
Your ancestors challenged me over and over with their complaining,
even though I had convinced them of my power and love.
They still doubted my care for them.” – Psalm 95:7-8 (TPT)
When the Israelites were tormented with thirst, “they argued with Moses and tested the LORD by saying, “Is the LORD here with us or not?” (ref. Exodus 17:7). They were about ready to stone Moses for leading them out of Egypt. They longed to go back to the place that held them in slavery and captivity. But our gracious and loving God longs to bring us to Promised Land living. Where our dependency is fully on Him. Where He provides the Living Water that quenches all our thirst and provides nourishment and strength to live abundantly. However, when we’re focused on what we lack, it draws us away from the Source that brings us our every need.
What if we dropped everything else and actually listened to His voice? Wouldn’t we be met with comfort and promise at every turn? Wouldn’t we bear the provision of a loving and powerful God?
“Today when you hear His voice, don’t harden your hearts.” – Hebrews 4:7
“Lord, I’m so sorry for the complaints that have poured out of my mouth. I have seen the works of Your hand – Your power and Your love – as You’ve provided for me over and over again. Forgive me Lord for the times I’ve focused on what I lack, instead of focusing on You. You are the Creator of all things, and You alone are my Provider. Mold my heart to trust You each day. Tune my ears to hear Your voice and may the response of my heart always be set to follow however You lead me. May I never doubt Your care of me, for I know You are the Potter and I am the clay. Mold me and make me, so my life reflects Your Son, Jesus. In His holy name, amen.”
