Inhale. Exhale.

I’ve been walking through a tough few weeks, and it seems like I’m constantly getting knocked down. At times it’s unbearable to breathe and seems as though I’m not strong enough to keep going. Can you relate to seasons like this?

I’ve been reminded that strength isn’t built in a day.

Our spiritual muscles aren’t automatically strong the moment we become a Christian - they’re exercised by wrestling through our faith, by seeking God in the midst of pain, asking hard questions, and stretching our minds and hearts to grow to be more like Jesus. And while the acidic burn of developing spiritual muscles may make it seem at times like it’s impossible to get back up, by the Grace of God He whispers words of truth and comfort, that draw us closer to Him, and we find ourselves on our feet again…in a place where we feel His intimate comfort with each drawing breathe…a place where the only thing that keeps us living is when we inhale God’s word and exhale God’s word. When His voice and His words are all that matter to our hearts, even if we’re in the midst of the fire, we find comfort in His presence.

His presence is what I crave to keep going.

I love these words spoken by God to the prophet Isaiah, where He showed the Israelites mercy and gave them the promise that His presence would be with them. Through the outpouring of His love, He would restore them.

“Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you.

I have called you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;

And when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;

The flames will not set you ablaze.

For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy one of Israel, your Saviour.” (Isaiah 43:2-3)

So today, I get back up. I keep going. Even though it hurts. Even though I can’t see my way forward and don’t know what the day holds. I cling to His presence and I just breathe. Inhale.

Don’t be afraid.

Exhale.

I won’t be afraid.

Inhale.

You’ve been ransomed.

Exhale.

You’ve ransomed me.

Inhale.

You are mine.

Exhale.

I am Yours.

Inhale.

I am with you.

Exhale.

You are with me.

Inhale.

Just believe me

Exhale.

I believe You.

Inhale.

Keep going.

Exhale.

I’ll keep going.
