“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” – John 1:5 (NLT)
Praise God for that, eh?!
Darkness can never extinguish the Light of Christ. No matter how great the enemy’s schemes or tactics, he will never win. He can never put out the fire of God, the fire of the Holy Spirit in and on the Church of Jesus Christ. While satan is relentless in his pursuit to steal, kill and destroy, he can never stop the message of Jesus. The darkness tried to destroy Jesus, but Jesus conquered death, and darkness failed. The burden of the cross was redeemed with an empty grave, for Light had come to the earth and brought Salvation for all. Since Christ lives, we too, can live forever. No plan of darkness can stop this from happening. The light of Christ lives in all who believe and receive Him, and we bear witness to the world about Him.
“God sent a man, John the Baptist, to tell about the light so that everyone might believe because of his testimony. John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light. The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” – John 1:6-9
The Light and fire of the Holy Spirit in us – the burning passion that fuels Christ followers – exposes the darkness for what it is and guides us into all Truth, and empowers us to keep going and speak Truth, regardless of what the repercussions of the world might be. Our encounter with Truth is vital to others hearing about the Light.. Just like John, we too, have been sent, to tell about the Light that we’ve received. To share how Jesus has changed us, so that others might believe because of our testimony. And with the beautiful privilege of being a witness of the Light, being able to participate in the plans of God’s Story, we are shielded with a promise that as we follow what God has asked of us, the Light in us can never be extinguished.
Personal reflection:
Have I allowed the Light of Jesus to invade every area of my life?
How have I seen the Light diminish the works of darkness in my life?
