Humble King

We don’t live in a “humble” society. We live in a society of ‘look at me’ and vanity. We certainly don’t have to look very far to see the attitude of self-promotion that’s been glorified.

This year, our world has been forced, in a lot of ways, to hit the reset button. Christmas is also a chance for us to be reminded of just how important humbleness is… a chance for us to look at ourselves. Perhaps hitting the reset button on where our attitude is at. Would it be said of us that we have the same attitude of Christ?

“Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” – Philippians 2:5-7

Who else has ever had greater reason to boast? Jesus – fully man and fully God - could have boasted of His status among men and made others serve Him. Out of His love for His Father, He laid aside His divine rights, and left His throne in Heaven to enter earth as a baby. His humble beginning was the set up for the legacy He would leave us with – the example of how we should live. He is the good news of Love! A life submitted to the ways of His Father, through the direction of the Holy Spirit, He carried the weight of all mankind’s sin, in order to restore relationship for us and our Creator.

As we can’t escape our fallen society, we are called to look differently. How do we look different from the world around us? What kind of legacy are we creating?

Let’s lay down our entire selves before Him… He is worthy of all of us. May we find joy in Who He is and What He has done for us. May we be transformed into His likeness… a humble people determined to live for Him in all our ways.
