Heaven on Earth

“Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.” – Matthew 6:10

When Jesus taught the disciples to pray to His Father in Heaven, He spoke of the power of Heaven coming down to earth. An active prayer for the present circumstance they found themselves in. Not just with a future tense. But for right now.

This one line from the Lord’s prayer, holds so much meaning and so much power in it.

In a world where our senses thrive off of what we experience, we develop a love for what we view to be good. Our taste of something good leads to a craving for more. When we look at something we see as good, we want to keep coming back to that place. When we feel good, that feeling energizes us to continually feel that way. When we hear what sounds good to us, our ears tingle to hear more. Living in the western world, I would say that so many of us likely love where we live…. There may be some with exceptions to it, but for the majority of us we don’t lack very much. So much so, that I wonder if what we actually may lack is asking to experience Heaven on earth - because we feel earth seems to be working out just fine.

It’s hard to imagine what Heaven would be like.

But what if we got a taste of it?

Just a glimpse of what Heaven was like… would we take this line more seriously?

Are we living with a small view of Heaven? A good indicator might be if we would be disappointed if Jesus came back today, because He’d be interrupting our plans…

I do believe we all can experience Heaven on earth… largely through the manifestation of the Holy Spirit in our lives. I think I’ve undervalued the Holy Spirit for the majority of my life, as just being an ‘add-on’, and not holding reverence to Him as God in the same way. Jesus is the Way the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Him….and while that is 100% true, because of it I think I have often viewed the trinity in a type of hierarchy: Father, then Son, then Holy Spirit. But we miss out on a third of God when the Holy Spirit is not revered with the same awe and respect as the other Godhead counterparts.

The Holy Spirit is not the sidekick, He’s equal part of God. He’s the One who hovered over the waters and manifested creation. He’s the One Who breathed life into Adam. He’s the One who conceived Jesus in Mary’s womb, and who raised Christ from the dead! The Holy Spirit is also the One who brings the Father’s Kingdom, the Father’s will, to earth, as it is in Heaven. We experience Heaven on earth through the Holy Spirit! Now it’s not in whole, but it is in part… Heaven on Earth.

Let’s let the Spirit of God work in our lives. Revealing Himself to us. Let’s taste and see that He is good. And let’s put things in perspective and long for Heaven to come to Earth like it’s something that would help make the difference our world so desperately needs.
