What is the state of your heart?
Are you distraught or discouraged?
Feeling broken, unheard, or unwanted in any way?
Jesus reminds us:
“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God. Trust also in me.” – John 14:1
It’s always easier said than done, to not let our hearts be troubled. We all experience different trials and storms in our lives. We experience situations where we become overwhelmed and discouraged, whether by our own doings, or from being in the cross-fire of other’s actions.
But as Jesus-followers, we have the power in us – the Holy Spirit – to still our hearts during those unsettled times. By talking to God and seeking Him for refuge, we place our trust back into the hands of our Creator and declare in faith that we trust Him with all the details.
“No weapon formed against us will prosper” (Isaiah 54:17). The details of our lives are not a surprise to God. And we’re never alone…no matter what’s going on, God is with us. He even fights on our behalf. When we believe these things, we can move forward with His peace. With His Hope. Breathing His breath each step along the way.
“Lord, as I start off this new day. Would you show me the state of my heart? Reveal to me any unsettled place in me and help me to imagine laying it at your feet, as a symbol of reverence before You. A symbol of submission, knowing that it belongs in Your hands and not mine. Help me to trust You with my heart. With my circumstance. With my feelings. Knowing full well that You have me in the palm of Your hand. Help me to trust You with the unknowns, as You go before me, and behind me, and You encircle all around me as a form of protection. You are the True Protector. My Provider. And my Holy Father.
I give You the pieces of me today, and I boldly ask that You would make much of this broken vessel placed in Your hands; that You would heal, and bring comfort, and redeem all of what the enemy meant for evil, and use it for good.
In Your Holy, and life-giving name. Amen!”
