28. “Have you never heard?
Have you never understood?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of all the earth.
He never grows weak or weary.
No one can measure the depths of his understanding.
29. He gives power to the weak
and strength to the powerless.
30. Even youths will become weak and tired,
And young men will fall in exhaustion.
31. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar high on wings like eagles.
They will run and not grow weary.
They will walk and not faint.” – Isaiah 40:28-31
Trust is a prerequisite for replenished strength… new strength… borrowed strength. It’s in our weakness that He is strong through us. (ref. 2 Corinthians 12:9) The original Hebrew language better defines verse 31, as ‘to wait’, ‘to look for’, ‘to hope’, ‘to expect’ and ‘to bind together.’
I love the imagery of being bound to our Creator – the One who knows us intimately and created us with love and purpose. Like really… how could we ever submit to fear recognizing that we’re in the safety and security of His strength and power?
Have I not heard? Have I not understood this is the kind of God that loves me?
If we really grasped this, don’t you think that we would stop stressing in the waiting? Don’t you think we’d stop complaining about all the unknowns? Don’t you think we’d stop striving for anything other than what He says is best for us?
Dear Lord, would you help us grasp the vastness of your love? To trust the security of your strength. The power of your might. Thank you, God, that your Word says You never grow faint or weary - giving us full access to You at any time. Build our faith as we wait upon You, listening for Your direction, working in and through our hearts. Give us a posture of hopeful expectancy for all You’re going to do next. In Jesus name, Amen.
