There’s something about heading into the weekend. Since childhood there’s always been excitement that’s built up in me for Fridays. Whether it’s the ability to have extra time with family and friends, or just the hope for extra rest - weekends always stir up joy in me.
This morning, I’m thinking about the simple joys in life. Recounting the small things and thanking God for each of them. Practicing a heart of gratitude as He tends to my soul.
A hot cup of tea.
Comfy warm socks.
The quietness of the house.
Lush green plants thriving by the window.
Stillness.
In the stillness, God speaks to me.
I drink it all in with groans and whispers spilling over into a list of thanksgiving. I pour over some of the psalms and they pull at my heartstrings, swelling emotions, and I give thanks of my own - because I know deep in my heart that His faithful love endures forever.
“Give thanks to the Lord of lords.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to Him who alone does mighty miracles.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to Him who made the Heavens so skillfully.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to Him who placed the earth among the waters.
His faithful love endures forever.
Give thanks to Him who made the Heavenly lights –
His faithful love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:3-7)
A heart of gratitude shapes my trust in the Divine. I ponder what I know to be true and let the chaos of the world and outside voices fall away. He shapes my perspective, as He searches out my heart, and I listen for His. That change in perspective, changes everything.
He calls me to more. To keep going. To keep trusting Him. To let living spill over into thanksgiving. My heart bows down in reverence for all that He’s doing – and I smile at it, while chaos looms around me.
Fridays.
Weekends.
Stillness.
Rest.
Protect it…and reflect.
He is good.
