God is in Control

“Who am I, O Sovereign LORD, and what is my family, that you have brought me this far?”

(2 Samuel 7:18)

I love this prayer of David’s as he expresses his humble acceptance of God’s will for his life. I always need to remind myself when reading from the Scriptures, that even though we may know the big picture of what happened in the lives of people of faith, they certainly didn’t at the time. Like us, they experienced all kinds of emotions. And just as they required faith to trust God with His promises, we also need to trust and have faith in what He says He’ll accomplish in and through us.

Who am I, O Sovereign LORD?

And what is my family?

That You have brought us this far…

I know God is Faithful. I can recount His goodness in my life and see so clearly where He made a way when I had no idea how He’d do it. I know when He’s spoken and confirmed direction for the steps we were to take. How good is our God?! How gracious He is to give peace in the moments of the looming unknown! And willing to show us a path that may very well be better than the one we were on.

And in the moments when my flesh screams through with worry and stress that satan wants me to sit in - when fear paralyzes me with anxiety because I have taken my eyes away from God… I have to realign back to what I know to be true.

“Sovereign LORD, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these good things to your servant.” (2 Samuel 7:28)

God. Is. In. CONTROL.

When I remember that God is still in control, regardless of the chaos surrounding us, the worry ceases and the anxiety fades away.

Our God is Sovereign.

He alone is in control.

Even when we can’t see what’s next.

I trust Him.

I believe His promises.

He is worthy, and so we trust Him with each step of our circumstance and with our steps going forward.

So many things I cannot control…

What others say.

What others do.

My reputation.

But I can control where I place my Trust.

And I choose to trust that He remains in control.

Afterall, He has taken us this far…what great things could be on the horizon?!
