From Generation to Generation

“We will not hide these truths from our children;

we will tell the next generation

about the glorious deeds of the LORD,

about His power and His mighty wonders.” – Psalm 78:4 (NLT)

The psalmist recounts the history of Israel as the chosen nation of God, the power and glory of God moving through them that would one day lead to the coming Messiah. Jesus is the climax of God’s story… Israel’s story… our story too. He’s the climax of our history AND our future!

He changes everything, for all of us!

“For He issued His laws to Jacob;

He gave His instructions to Israel.

He commanded our ancestors

to teach them to their children,

so the next generation might know them –

even the children not yet born –

and they in turn will teach their own children.

So each generation should set its hope anew on God,

not forgetting His glorious miracles

and obeying His commands.

Then they will not be like their ancestors –

stubborn, rebellious, and unfaithful,

refusing to give their hearts to God.” – Psalm 78:5-8 (NLT)

Passing down, from generation to generation, the revelation of Who Jesus is and what He’s done for us, is of utmost importance. From the Garden until today and beyond us, each generation has a responsibility to share the Truth of God – regardless if we’ve birthed the children ourselves or not. God’s story matters in a world that masquerades the Truth. Our story intertwined into God’s story has the power to impact those who have yet to hear the Good News of Jesus. I believe this is the reason why Jesus spoke in parables – He knows His creation loves to hear a good story. All people need to hear…

Lord, give this generation and those following, ears to hear the gospel message of Jesus. May we be women who do not shy away from speaking the Truth, even in opposition. May our hearts burn with love for You, and desire what You desire – that not any should perish. Make us women, who welcome the opportunity to advocate for You. May our hope be set fully on You, and our lives be filled with Your Presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
