In a culture that tells us “You can be anything you want to be” and “You’ve got this”, the word surrender is often seen in a negative way…as a sign of weakness. But those who are in Christ, know there’s no more secure place to live than in surrender to God’s will for our life.
Proverbs 3:6 says, “Seek God’s will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
Since God knows what’s best for us, He knows the best path for us to take (even when we can’t see it).
Not only does our human nature seem to buck against surrender, but the devil doesn’t want us to either. He wants us to buy into the lie that we can make it on our own… that we don’t need anyone else to accomplish the hopes and dreams in our hearts. But just like God graciously gives us choice to follow Him or not, He also gives us the free will when it comes to surrendering to His will. Really, they both go hand-in-hand: if we whole-heartedly desire to follow God, then our surrender to His plan for us should follow.
God promises to lead us in a way that’s everlasting… holding on to that promise and following His lead brings freedom in knowing that we’ll never end up in a place that we shouldn’t be, or never end up in a place that He hasn’t gone into before us – preparing the way for His will to be accomplished.
Surrendering our will to God’s will, starts with a surrendered heart. It begins by believing He knows what’s the best, most fulfilling, and most impactful life for us to live. The freedom in this surrender, brings with it the true identity of who we are in Christ, and what He has called us to do. Open hands reflect surrendered hearts. So how tightly are you holding to your own plans?
Our choice to surrender is one that has to be made daily…sometimes hourly…. By choosing to accept the grace of God in this way, our hearts can live in a surrendered state, trusting Him for the best for us, and for those He places around us.
What freedom, knowing that we’re in God’s hands.
What relief it brings that we can’t royally screw it up, if God is leading.
What comfort knowing that He has a path intricately designed for each one of us.
What peace that fuels our souls, when we trust Him to be in control.
