There are so many themes we can find when reading The Bible, which I think are fascinating. One that’s been sticking out to me lately, is the continuous work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of God’s people – I keep spotting them everywhere I read. We can learn so much of how the Holy Spirit operates by following these tidbits we find throughout Scripture.
The promptings. The nudges. The inner voice. The visions. The revelation.
The Holy Spirit is a vital part of a Jesus-followers life, and an imperative part of the Church’s work to fulfill the Kingdom calendar and to bring Heaven to Earth.
We see this so clearly in the life of the apostle Paul. The Holy Spirit compelled Paul to go certain places (ref. Acts. 19:21), and also prohibited him from going other places. (ref. Acts 16:6&7) The Holy Spirit, among other things, also told Paul ahead of time what to expect would happen in each city he visited…. Paul even knew he would go to jail in certain cities as he entered them. (ref. Acts 20:23)
One thing that I know is that we cannot comprehend the full scope and magnitude of the Spirit of God. But we can trust Him. His prompting and the nudges He gives us. We may not always understand them fully, but if we listen and follow His leading, He’ll take care of the unknowns. Afterall, God’s mission and Kingdom are at hand…so if we’re following His ways, then His Spirit will not only get us through whatever circumstance He leads us to, but He’ll also walk with us through it.
The impact of one man’s obedience in following the promptings of the Holy Spirit can literally change the world. I’m pretty sure that Paul did not understand the scope to which the work of Christ in Him, and his surrender to the Spirit of God, would have on you and me… Paul just followed each direction as it was revealed to him.
Paul’s life, in some ways, is no different than ours. We are chosen, like he was chosen…to share what’s changed us. Who’s changed us!
I’m convinced that the manifestation of the Spirit of God is revealed to us as we believe and surrender to His ways. I want that for you and I want that for me. That we’d follow each nudge the Spirit gives us. Tuned-in to where He’s directing us to go and knowing the boundaries when He compels us to go no further. Just think of the possible impact we could have in following the nudges and promptings the Holy Spirit gives us!
“The Holy Spirit of God has sealed you in Jesus Christ until you experience your full salvation. So never grieve the Spirit of God or take for granted his holy influence in your life.” – Ephesians 4:30 (TPT)
