Fear is a Liar

Are you overwhelmed and discouraged? Fear does that – creeps into our thoughts and consumes our body, with the hopes to make our steps idle. It can happen so fast, like a wave crashing over us, and soon those feelings of discouragement and being overwhelmed, turn into an onset of anxiety, squeezing the breath right out of us.

We need to remember that fear is a spirit… and we have the power within us to overcome it.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (2 Timothy 1:7) Paul knew that Timothy needed to hear these words and be reminded to exercise the power that had been given to him by the Holy Spirit. I certainly need this reminder often too. I wonder if you do as well.

Instead of believing the lies of the enemy, we need to stand confident on the Word of God. We need the courage to dispel those lies, to speak out the lie in order to loose the control that satan has taken over us, and to remain confident of the Truth. Fear is a liar, and we need to treat it as such. To rid ourselves of the consuming thoughts of fear, address the feelings that fear imposes on us, and then renew our minds with the pure power of Truth. I know it’s not always easy – trust me! But I also know that the spirit of fear and timidity does flee when we take the authority we’ve been given by Jesus, to stand up and command it to leave.

I think there’s a reason that The Bible is full of verses that command us not to fear... certainly, God knew that the spirit of fear is one of the stealthiest and common attacks of satan. So, grab a verse today that reminds you of Who holds the future, and Who gives you strength… let your mind and your heart meditate on some Truth instead.

“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.

Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.

I will strengthen you and help you.

I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.”

- Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)
