Entrusted Witnesses

“You are my witnesses,” declared the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, that you may know and believe me and understand that I am He. Before me no god was formed, nor shall there be any after me.” – Isaiah 43:10

Israel was the chosen nation by which God would make Himself known to the rest of the world. As His witnesses, they would tell of the Holy, Miracle-working God, who sets captives free, and who provides for all of their needs. Their God was like no other. No man-made, made up concept of a god could ever compare. Their God would speak, listen and move, going with them wherever they’d go. The Israelites had intimacy with God. They knew God and they were known by Him.

As followers of Jesus, we are grafted into the same inheritance as Israel. We have the opportunity to commune with God in the same way. Seeing Him move in our lives. Hearing His voice and continuing to have dialogue with Him whenever and wherever we go.

“You are my witnesses,” declared the Lord.

We too, are God’s witnesses to a lost and broken world. A world blinded by the schemes of the enemy, who desperately hold a longing in their spirits for Truth and just don’t know it yet. Jesus reiterated our purpose before He ascended to Heaven when He said, “Go and make disciples of all the nations.” (ref. Matthew 28:19). We can’t make disciples without witnessing to people first.

Witnessing requires obedience.

It requires movement.

It requires a voice.

Are others able to easily identify Who you are a witness for? Is it evident that you’re a Jesus-follower by the way you live? How you act? And the words you say?

We’ve been entrusted with an important task. So many souls need saving. So many people need freedom. We are God’s witnesses chosen for this generation, in the place and time we live. Let’s be praying that we would heed God’s direction and speak confidently of the One Who has changed our life.
