Who’s down for dropping some weight?
Take a second, and reflect on whether there is anything that’s been weighing you down lately? I’m not talking about body weight, but rather the weight that we can easily carry around that hinders us from progressing forward with what God’s called us to. Not what others expect of us, but what God’s got for us. Is there anything, that, as you pause, you can feel the heaviness of?
The weight of competition and comparison? The weight of feeling like you’re not good enough? The weight of bitterness? Unforgiveness? Negative Thinking?
As Jesus followers, when we determine to let Him lead us, He will inevitably start nudging us to drop the weight of stuff He never intended for us to carry. We can’t hold what He’s entrusted us, while our hands are struggling to juggle the things that fill us with anxiety and keep us focusing on the negative. The stuff that takes our eyes off of Him… His ways… how He views us…and what He’s called us to do.
“Therefore, we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” – Hebrews 12:1-2
The faith race that we are called to, isn’t something that is always easy, but He never intended for us to be weighed down on our journey. In fact, He’s promised to carry all the baggage for us – that’s the work He did on the cross. Let's travel a little lighter as we purpose to put down the weight we were never meant to pick up.
Responsive Prayer:
“Lord, would you show me my heart. Search me and expose anything in me that is restricting me from moving forward into what You have for me. I repent for the lies of the enemy that I’ve believed and held tightly to, that were never meant for me to carry. I decree today that I’m dropping the weight that cheats me of the freedom You’ve paid for and called me to live in. Lord, I ask that as I focus my attention and energy on You that You would increase my faith, building courage and perseverance in me to step forward in the path You’ve marked out specifically for me, and to trust You with all the details that I don’t understand along the way. May my life be a reflection of the anchor of hope and love that You steady me with. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
