Drawing Near

“So the Word became human and made His home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen His glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.”– John 1:14 (NLT)

Christmas time is the ultimate move of God – the Word leaving Heaven to enter the earth He created, taking on human form. Moving beyond all barriers, to live a perfect life, to die a perfect death in order to conquer all death in His resurrection.

God has always made the first move. We can only choose Him, because He first chose us. (ref. Ephesians 1:4) We can only respond to Him because He made a way for us to respond to Him, in that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. (ref. Romans 5:8) We can only love Him, because He loved us first. (ref. 1 John 4:19) We can only draw near to God because God first drew near to us. (ref. James 4:8)

His plan has always been to be near to His creation. When we arrive in Heaven we’ll be restored to our original design – near Him, no more barriers. What a glorious day that will be! Until that day comes, we have the privilege to access Heaven now through His Word and His Spirit. Kingdom living happens now when we draw near to Him. Craving His presence. Desiring for Him to reveal His heart to ours, so that we can please Him and enjoy the great pleasure of being a part of His Kingdom plan here and now.

Draw near. What a privilege it is for us to be able to draw near to a holy and loving God! Most of the time if we don’t plan or determine to do it – to set aside time to be in His presence – it likely won’t happen. So, how are you planning on drawing near to Him this Christmas? He’s already made the ultimate move… We have access to so much in Him. Will we choose Him over the busyness of filling up our schedules? Will we choose Him over the entertainment of the season?

Let’s determine to put Him above everything else. How sad would it be, that during a season that is supposed to be a celebration of what He’s done for us, if we looked back a month from now and recognized that we celebrated with everyone else but Him.

“Lord, I desire to put You first every day. Help me to keep my focus on the reason of Christmas. I decree that the spirit of distraction will not be upon me, my family, and my home this season. We will celebrate the birth, life, death and resurrection this Christmas. We will carry the hope that we have into the lost and dark world. And we thank you God for drawing near to us first, so that we could draw near to You. In Jesus name, amen.”
