“We have confidence in a hope through which we draw near to God.” – Hebrews 7:19 (NLT)
Aren’t you so thankful for Jesus? For all that He’s done for us – for the cross, and for His shed blood that covers all sin. For giving us access to our Heavenly Father through His sacrifice. We could never repay Him for the drastic measures of love He took upon Himself, so that we could know God intimately - now and eternally.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8 (NKJV)
Our relationship with God, like all relationships, requires action. An action that has its own result. Sin separates us from God, but because of the hope and faith we have in Jesus, we have the opportunity to draw near to God. The nearness part is fully dependant on how much we put into the relationship, turning toward Him. Jesus did His part for us, now the question of “how near are we willing to draw to God?”, is up to us.
The Spirit of Christ that lives in all who are followers of Jesus, is our Guide to building a close relationship with God. Jesus said that, “when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. He will glorify me because it is from me that He will receive what He will make known to you. All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what He will make known to you.” (ref. John 16:13-15)
Will we seek the guidance of Christ’s Spirit in us, to help us draw near to the Father?
Are we creating space for time alone with Him?
Are we listening to His voice?
Are we heeding His instructions?
It’s by the grace of Jesus that we can be thankful, that each day is a new opportunity to know God. Grace allows us to keep on seeking Him, to keep drawing near.
