“You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. Don’t hide your light! Let it shine brightly before others, so that the commendable things you do will shine as light upon them, and they will give glory to your Father in Heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16
We’ve been created on purpose and for a purpose. When we believe that God is who says He is, and that His Son died and rose again for us, a spark is ignited inside us by His Spirit.
It’s the Spirit of God inside us that holds the power to light up the world. When I close my eyes thinking about it, what a beautiful mental picture of all the lights He’s placed around the world. The impact one light can have on this dark world is incredible…let alone the impact we can have when we unite our lights together for a greater purpose.
God did not make a mistake when He chose us to be the ones who would carry His light. He formed us uniquely and is continually forming us into the likeness and character of Jesus, as we seek Him and walk in step with His Spirit.
Jesus’ words remind me that we matter!
Every single person has the capacity to make an impact for His Kingdom – drawing others to know their Heavenly Father.
We matter.
Our voice matters. It’s powerful.
Our actions matter. They speak louder than words.
His light in us is contagious.
Sparks are fueled by the increase of His presence in us.
More of Him and less of us, results in brighter lights. Greater impact.
But the fact that Jesus says, “Don’t hide your light!” tells me that it can be hidden. When we don’t walk in step in His Spirit, the spark fades…
When we make life more about us and less about Him, the light diminishes.
The world needs our light.
The people God’s placed around you need your light.
Don’t shrink back from who He’s created you to be, what He’s created you to do, and hide your light.
Our full potential is in Him alone.
Let your light shine!
