Discovery of Joy

“Heaven’s kingdom realm can be illustrated like this:

A person discovered that there was hidden treasure in a field. Upon finding it, he hid it again. Because of uncovering such treasure, he was overjoyed and sold all that he possessed to buy the entire field just so he can have the treasure.” – Matthew 13:44 (TPT)

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure, whose value is incomparable with any other treasures we could ever possess. The great mystery of God was revealed to us in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. It’s because of His great love for us that He took on the punishment of our sin, so that we could be spared eternal death. What overwhelming good news once we discover it! Jesus is the greatest treasure we could ever know!

In this parable the man was willing to give up everything he had to buy the field with the buried treasure in it. In the same way, while we will never be able to earn or pay for the treasure of Jesus – Grace is free to all who choose to receive – we will discover that there is a cost to following Him. Following Him requires all of us – it’s an exchange of all of us, for all of Him. This transaction should fill us with joy! The joy of salvation is the earmark of what Christianity is all about.

Beyond the greatest treasure we could ever have – Jesus Himself for all eternity - we get to search for treasures in His Word and discover the joy of His Spirit working through us. Daily we have the opportunity for fresh discovery. We don’t have to… we get to! We get to understand the deep secrets of God (ref. 1Corinthians 2:10-12) and the Holy Spirit is our guide to understanding them all. From now until we enter eternity, may we be marked with Joy, because we know what it is to discover more about Him and to tarry in His presence.

What have you discovered lately in His Word and His presence that has filled you with joy?
