Deep Things of God

“For it is written: ‘What no eye has seen,

What no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived’

The things God has prepared for those who love Him –

these are the things God has revealed to us by His Spirit.

The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thought except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.

We speak, not in words taught to us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. The person with the Spirit makes judgements about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgements, for, “Who has known the mind of the Lord as to instruct him?”

But we have the mind of Christ.” – 1 Corinthians 2:9-16

It’s unfathomable to comprehend all of what God has planned for each and every one of us. Doesn’t it blow your mind a little, to think of the intricate details He has planned out for every single human being that has ever and will ever live? The plans He has for us go far beyond our greatest imagination and exceed our highest aspirations.

I can’t help but think of the vast difference between a person who has the indwelling Spirit of the Living God inside them, in comparison to someone who does not. There should be a difference. A big difference. To the world around us, and to us personally. The person with the Spirit of God shouldn’t look, sound, or operate just like everyone else. The Holy Spirit brings life-change and should be evident through how we see the world, how we listen, when and how we speak, and how our lives strive to reflect Jesus and bring glory to Him. I’m not talking about checking off a list of to-do’s but an active life of listening and following the Spirit of God should reflect life-change….drastically.

With the Holy Spirit in us – we literally have access to the mind of Christ. He teaches us, directs us and instills wisdom in us. Not human wisdom, but that of the Spirit.

I don’t know about you, but when I read these verses I want to cry out to God: “Lord teach me Your ways. Don’t let me miss the Spirit’s leading because of my own self. Speak, and speak again when I don’t understand the first time. Help me to accept the things that come from Your Spirit and minimize the voices around me that are battling for my attention and action. Replace my thoughts with Your thoughts. I have been given the mind of Christ through the Holy Spirit - it is He Who reveals to me the deep things of God. Continue to remind me of this awesome reality! Amen.”
