Content in Jesus

“Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said,” I will never leave you nor forsake you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”

– Hebrews 13:5-6 (NKJV)

Contentment flows from a heart that is fully set on trusting the Lord. We’ll never experience true contentment from the things that we have, but in Who we have received. Jesus promises us that everything that we need can be found in Him. He is enough for us! In our lack, He is everything - our provider in all circumstances. Our constant through any storm. Our security through any fear.

For me, I think I often undervalue the promise in this verse that He will never leave me or forsake me. It’s another lie of the enemy to think that we’re ever alone, to think that He would choose to abandon us for some reason.

I love how the Amplified version expands on this promise: “He has said, I will never [under any circumstances] desert you [nor give you up nor leave you without support, nor will I in any degree leave you helpless], nor will I forsake or let you down or relax My hold on you [assuredly not]! So we take comfort and are encouraged and confidently say, “The Lord is my Helper [in time of need], I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?” – Hebrews 13:5b-6

May our hearts take comfort and be encouraged today, resting in the contentment of having Jesus as our constant. He alone is our Helper and is steadfast. It’s by Him and through Him that we can breathe with ease, trusting that He holds us, filling us with His unending love, and all-consuming peace that passes all understanding.

May our heart’s cry want for nothing else – just Jesus. Amen?
