“Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound Himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that He would never change His mind. So God has given both His promise and His oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to Him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.” - Hebrews 6:16-20 (NLT)
Aren’t you so glad that it is impossible for God to lie?
He’s not subject to the sinful nature of humanity, where He makes a promise and doesn’t hold true to His word. Every word He’s ever spoken has and will come to be. What He speaks, manifests in the spiritual realm and then in the natural realm. There’s no changing His mind.
The oath that He’s given to all of us through Jesus our Saviour, takes our faith in Him and binds our souls with an anchor that keeps us joined to Him for all eternity. Jesus is that confident hope that tethers us to the Father! Our refuge in whom we can run to with any problem or situation and be held and covered under His umbrella of grace and mercy. Jesus is our stability and safety through the storms of life. He keeps us grounded and gives us eyes to see beyond our circumstance to the unchanging, never-expiring hope that we have in being one of God’s children.
So how’s your soul really doing today?
May we be reminded of the confident hope that we have in Jesus. God is not a man that He should lie. He’ll never leave us or forsake us. He will remain true and steadfast in the chaos and the calm, in the storms and on the mountaintops.
