Some days just feel like wherever you turn, there’s something going on that makes you feel sad or grieved by life… Sometimes the sheer state of our world can make us want to crawl under a rock and hide. And that may be your conclusion before even seen anything from the media. Do you ever feel like this?
“But we are citizens of Heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Saviour.” – Philippians 3:20
It doesn’t take too long, when you think of the evil and corruption in our world, to want to run for our ever-loving minds, and find some untouched island to live-out the rest of our days… Afterall, it makes sense that we all long to live in peace and love when our home for eternity is in Heaven.
And then, honestly, I stop and think just how many friends and family members in our lives, have yet to come to know Jesus as their Saviour, and then I think, “oh Jesus, please wait just a little longer before you come back… please let them surrender to You first.”
I think it’s good to remind ourselves of where our citizenship lies. In our day-to-day living, it’s maybe easy to lose that perspective. We’re here for a purpose. Here to make a statement in the span of earthly time we’ve been given… in the area of the world we’ve been entrusted to take ground.
I love how the Passion translation interprets Paul’s words in his letter to the Philippians…”But we are a colony of Heaven on Earth, as we cling tightly to our life-giver, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Because of Christ in us, we are a colony of Heaven on Earth. And as we cling tightly to Jesus and listen to the leading of His Spirit in us, we have so much to give to the world around us. We may be eagerly awaiting His return, but until that day comes, we have a lot of Heaven to be sharing with all who we come in contact with. In words or in deeds, showing love is the greatest gift that this world needs.
Let’s be asking God to remind us of where we belong, and to Whom we belong - and until we get there, to be a light that shines some Heaven here on earth.
