Choosing to Extend Love

Have you noticed what an impact an extension of love can make?

Have you been on the receiving end of it lately?

Or have you been the one who was extending that love?

An extension of love has the power to change so much in a person’s day!

Joy brought to your downcast soul.

Encouragement to keep going when you’re struggling to make it through the day.

A change of perspective because you’ve been seen.

Diminishing the feelings of loneliness, because you’ve been acknowledged.

A change of mood because a simple act has brought you hope.

All in the power of love!

Jesus said, “And this is My commandment – that you love one another as I have loved you.” – John 15:12

Those are some big shoes to fill – Jesus took His love for us to the cross and through to the empty grave! So, tangibly how can we extend love today?

I think Paul says it perfectly when he says, “Let all that you do be done in love.” – 1 Corinthians 16:14. That tells me that extending love can be found in all the little things…

An out-stretched arm.

A helping hand.

A warm hug.

A smile.

A prayer.

A call or text.

A listening ear.

A written card or letter.

A gift dropped at the door.

An encouraging visit.

I believe the Holy Spirit gives us those nudges. Puts people on our minds who need encouragement. Who need some extra love. A little extra time. A gift of grace.

Let’s decide to listen to those whispers. Taking the time to choose to extend the life-changing love of Jesus to those He’s placed around us.
