Celebrating the Memories

I love celebrating! I’m not a big ‘fan-fare’ person who needs the big crowds or has to have all the ‘things’ in order to celebrate though... I’m more of an intimate, pondering-type, that does deep reflection on anniversary days that roll up on the calendar. Days that I may celebrate along with others, and some additional days, celebrated more personally, that are marked in my mind’s eye of what happened years ago on such a day. Remembering where I was, or who I was, at a specific moment of time and seeing now, where God has brought me to – with eyes that are opened to how He’s been interwoven in my life all the way along.

Memories can show up in all shapes and sizes: painful, devastating, joyful, hilarious, full of grief or love, or a mirage of both together. And yet these memories are based off moments or seasons in our lives that have composed us into who we are today. They can become a beautiful expression of our growth. And these memories we hold are powerful opportunities to celebrate Jesus’ never-ending love for us.

How He’s pursued us.

How He’s rescued us.

How He’s walked us through the pain.

How He’s provided in indescribable ways.

How He’s broken through the walls we’ve built up, in order to reveal Himself to us.

How He’s wrapped us in the presence of His love when we’ve wallowed in the deepest pit.

When He’s taken what the enemy meant for destruction, and He’s poured breath and strength into us to keep going, and we survive.

These are memories worth celebrating!

“I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever.

Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised, and his greatness is unsearchable.

One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.

They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness.

They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.” - Psalm 145:1-7 (ESV)

Personal reflection:

What memories are you celebrating?

Who are you sharing them with?

Have you taken time to meditate lately on how God has shown up in the moments or seasons that you’ve journeyed through?
