Better than Life!

“For your love and kindness are better to me than life itself. How I praise you!” – Psalm 63:3

It’s believed that David wrote this psalm in the wilderness while he was being hunted by the jealous King Saul. I love the passion that is peering through these words on a page. David thirsted for God. He longed to be in His presence and to see His power, strength and glory. He poured his life out before God as an offering of worship and praise, with his heart determined to bless God all his days. (v.4)

David’s love for God was rooted in nothing he could have ever done to earn it. His motivation for his continuous pursuit of God was based solely on the lovingkindness of an all-consuming, amazing God. God’s pursuit of David, by way of love and abundant kindness meant more to David than life itself. What a perspective! What a heart after God! To desire God so desperately. So passionately. How beautiful of an example for us!

And we know that God’s love and kindness for all humanity pushed beyond the limits of what King David knew of God, because Jesus came as the sacrifice for all our sin. It was because of God’s great love for us, that Jesus would love us more than His life – to live in order to die. How could we not praise Him for going to such great lengths of love and kindness in His death and resurrection?

Do you feel motivated to seek God? Do you believe that all He offers you is better than the life you can live on your own? Better than life itself? May we be women who wholeheartedly pursue our relationship with God – in a way that reflects even some of just how greatly He’s pursued us.

“God, will You create in me the same passion and desperation for You that we see David had for You. Help me to desire You above all else. Remind me again and again of Your love and kindness. May praise for your goodness and faithfulness always be on my lips. In Jesus' name, Amen.”
